a “robin hood” theatrical production, jousting chickens, pumpkin-powered machines, a splattery display of medieval weaponry, a magic show, barrel train rides, a scarecrow band, cookout food, and the sights, sounds and smells of farm life are on display at carter’s red wagon farm.

the farm’s 2020 fall festival and pumpkin party debuted saturday, and the show went on despite on-and-off-again rain.

a small artillery crew struggled to find the range of a trebuchet so they could hurl pumpkins at a pile of barrels. a rube goldberg machine demonstrated a more up-to-date process for chucking pumpkins. an announcer read groan-worthy poultry jokes while armored knights charged at each other on the backs of giant chickens.

giant pumpkins lurked along the side of a pole barn, while children chose smaller pumpkins to take home from a nearby display. families were encouraged to tour the farm on foot or via a barrel train, exploring two corn mazes and a hay bale maze.
